Mr. Maclin Comes to Philly

Jeremy Maclin it is. The Eagles moved up from 21 to 19 to nab the playmaking WR and RS from the University of Missouri. I had him ranked as the #2 WR. When you get a guy like that to slide down you are getting good value.

Maclin is the X-receiver of the future. He has the size and speed to be a star at that spot. He has great RAC ability (the best of the entire draft). He is a playmaker and he's also a high character guy. He'll need time to adjust from the spread to the NFL. Crabtree is also a spread receiver, but is a more physical player. Maclin is the playmaker. He's the guy that can score anytime he touches the ball.

This is a good pick for the Eagles because you add an explosive guy who can give you impact on offense and STs. I would have preferred the Eagles to land a more physical receiver who would offer major impact in the Red Zone and on 3rd downs. My worry is that this give Andy Reid another "toy" to work with instead of the kind of meat and potatoes player the offense lacks.

We'll see what they do with the other picks. Give me a quality RB and TE who can block and I'll be fine with things.

Despite his girth, AR doesn't like Meat & Potatoes, brings him out in a rash

Spadaro just EXPLODED on about Boldin. LMAO. I like the pick, but I share the same concerns - we still need a RB and TE for depth.

Please expand Cliff

Expand on Dave's explosion? He had a caller start whining (as opposed to discussing) about our innability to trade for Boldin. Then Dave yells, "BOLDIN IS NOT BEING TRADED!!!!! GET IT THROUGH YOUR DUMB MIND."

Expand on other concerns? I love the addition of Maclin because he's a "playmaker." I'll love it even more if we draft Donald Brown or LeSean McCoy so we don't go in to the season with Booker as our only other runningback.

this might be an apples and oranges question, but how much better is Maclin than Hicks/Britt... guys we could have had with a trade down (theoretically)

He's different. Just_Relax said once in the Blog (v2) when discussing TEs that "if the Eagles wanted improved RZ production they'd take Pettigrew, if the wanted 20 yard + catches they'd take Nelson or Cook. AR/MM love and I mean LOVE 20 + yard catches and meat and potatoes footballer can be found on Monday

With Maclin, we have to have one of the fastest, if not THE fastest, group of receivers in the NFL. "On paper" that seems like it should be a tremendous advantage, but I'm interested in how something like that plays out on the field.

What other teams have a similar personnel set and how do they use it to beat a defense? How do you think we'll use all of this speed?
