Bad News

***

A reliable source just told me that Stewart Bradley has a torn ACL. Ugh. We all wanted to find a way to get Joe Mays on the field, but this wasn't what any of us had in mind.

The good news for Stewart is that this is a summer injury. He'll have almost 12 full months until the next Training Camp. That extra recovery time can make a big difference with an ACL injury.

As for Joe...he impressed the heck out of all of us last summer. He now gets a chance to show what he can do with the starters. If Joe struggles at all, Omar Gaither could be shifted back to the middle. I definitely want to see Joe get a chance at the job.

The player who benefits the most is Charleston Hughes. He's actually done some good things in TC, but was the #3 MLB. He had no shot at making the team without a phenomenal summer. Now he has a very real chance to make the team. Let's hope he takes advantage of the extra reps.

I'll write more about Mays later.

This is karma. Joe Banner sticks his chest way out and says the Eagles have the best roster. Of course we then lose one of, if not the, most valuable player on defense. Thanks Joe.

Yes...this is sad news, but dang, one player does not make the team. Let's see who step's up (Mays? Gaither? Someone else?)The greatest thing for me about the football season is that adversity must always be overcome to have a successful season. Dawk is gone...JJ is gone...Bradley is out...time for others to step up. Don't give up yet y'all!

Mays seems like he may be a coverage liability but so was Trot. McDermott is going to have to maximize what Mays does best and get others on the field (Gaither) for what he doesn't.

They say championship teams have depth. Heres hoping.

I'm confident Gaither can take over if Mays can't. Hey, this might be added motivation for Omar after being upset at getting benched.

He's smart and he's a leader. He also has regular season experience at MLB.

Omar Gaither can't get the job done. They brought Mays in when Bradley went down last night. Hopefully our luck with drafting LBs continues.

OMG Mays is only 5 ft 11. We are screwed. I thought Trent Cole was the most irreplaceable player on this team. Now I believe it is Stewart Bradley.

Why can't Gaither get the job done?

Omar's MLB stats: 102 tackles, 8 PDef, 1 INT

Bradley: 108 tackles, 6 PDef, 1 INT, 1 sack

Sure, Bradley has the [much] higher ceiling, but Gaither showed in 2007 he isn't dog meat. Even last year he had 2.5 sacks and a FF.
