Couple of Things

New PE.com article is up. I did a mock draft for the Eagles.

LJ Sounds Off

LJ Smith told some reporters he wasn't happy with the way some of the coaches treated him in 2008. Boo frickin' hoo.

I can think of an organization and fan base that wasn't happy with the way you treated them in 2007 and 2008.

This is sorta typical of LJ. He's making some excuses for why things didn't work out. You have to love it when a chronic underachiever blames poor play on the coaches and the way they communicated with him.

I wish him well in Baltimore. I'm frustrated with LJ because making comments like this is just dumb. He's got a 1-year deal with the Ravens. He'll be on the market next March. Why do something like this? It won't help your prospects in the future and it doesn't accomplish anything in the present.

It is great to see you and Matt producing mocks at the same time.

I notice you have never mocked Jared Cook. Do you think he is over valued?

I also like Henry Melton who you mentioned on tSN, but miss Jason Williams.

That said, this is the first time we've heard a player say something like this. I'm not fully buying into LJ's point of view, but at the same time I do hope that Andy maybe alters his approach somewhat in regards to communicating with players. Not that he needs to make wholesale changes or anything, but it does sound like he could stand to go a just a tad more in the direction towards being a players kind of coach. I think he can do this without compromising his consistent approach. And I think he's shown signs of adapting (ie, the over 30 training camp club, the players council, etc). Just hope he goes a little more in that direction. I want Don to have his best mindset in 09. No lingering issues going forward.

Meant to say NOT the first time we've heard a player say this. Oops.

I like your thinking on the draft Tommy. I also like the idea of taking 2 RB's and 2 TE's as well as the idea of taking Moreno at 21 and a TE in the 2nd. I question your 28 pick - will Alphonso's production and numbers translate in the pros when he's going up against much larger players I guess is the key question. Nothing against his skill or attitude but I wonder how much will the sheer lack of height hinder him? The Eagles do like to pick cornerbacks in the 1st as opposed to centers like Alex Mack who I like at 28. I think Mack will be a player like Tra Thomas who you can just plug in there for the next 10 years and he'll be solid and make all-pro 3 or 4 times. I'd also have to strongly consider Hakeem Nicks here. 2nd round, I'd like to see us use some of our player/picks ammo and move up ahead of Buffalo if they haven't already picked Pettigrew in the 1st to nab Shawn Nelson. If we don't take Nicks at 28, I agree the 3rd is the round to upgrade the WR position. Otherwise, I think S or CB could be targets here like Clemson's Hamlin. I surprised you waited to the 6th round to pick a fullback, I would be looking in the 5th, no? And finally, even though Akers had a comeback year, he really had a bad game there against the Cards. I'd love to see us spend an early 5th on Graham Gano who kicks 50+ FG's and punts too - 2 for the price of 1. Speaking of which, do you know if Alex Mack long snaps as well? Sorry for the long comment but this draft can't get here fast enough.... BTW, liked your very funny post on PFT re:Nicks weight gain. Hilarious!
