Couple of Things

***

The next few days could be wild and crazy.  My posts will be shorter, but hopefully have some good info for you.

I'm hearing that at least one team is having talks with the Eagles about Michael Vick.  I don't know if this is a deal that will get done soon or not.  The other team is trying to figure out how Vick will handle joining a team with a starter already in place.  Can't be specific with this for now.

Expect the Eagles to try to be active in FA as early as tomorrow.  They will "begin" talking to agents tonight at Midnight about lining up a visit for Friday.  Peppers, maybe?

The Rams put a low tender on FS O.J. Atogwe.  Great news.  We can now go after him without having to give up compensation.  I don't know if the Eagles are interested, but they should be.

More to come...

are the rumors on PFT about mcnabb true?

smokescreen baby. Drive his value up even further.

Plus, I wonder if it makes the Eagles more appealing to have McNabb still in the nest as FA begins.

mcud77 is a pretty wise man. Just don't tell him that. I don't want it going to his head.

Tommy,

I'm interested to read your thoughts on our own FA tenders. It seems like by giving 2nd round tender to Cole, Avant, and Jordan, and original round tender to the rest, that Banner/Reid are daring NFL teams to sign them.

How do you think these guys are viewed around the league? I would imagine that Avant would be tempting to a team or two, along with Gocong (3rd round tender) and possibly Hobbs and Gaither (5th rounders).

I wonder who your sources are (Don't tell) but you/they seem more creditable than all these reporters' Looking forward to reading more, and to an exiting FA.

I too want to know what you think about our RFA tenders, especially Gocong

Hmmm, who is looking at Vick? "starter in place" prob means a good, not great incumbent with no real back-up/future. SEA, TEN, OAK, DEN and JAX come to mind. SEA prob gets a QB in the draft. TEN prob does not want to undermine VYoung's confidence with Vick. Vick is not a fit for McDaniels system. OAK? maybe but that would be more a competition vs behind an incumbent. Smells like JAX to me. They don't love Garrard and Vick would certaintly help sell tickets to a franchise that desperately needs it.

Anybody in the mood for a sequel to Leonard Part 6?

Why, did Weaver finally sign?

Good news if so!

I actually came here today to see what you thought about the eagles pursuing OJ Atogwe. As soon as I saw that he was tendered such a low offer I got excited. A legitimate FS on the open market(so to speak), the Eagles better be taking a long serious look at that one.

Cole, Avant, and Jordan are probably safe as 2nd round tenders. However, I wouldn't be overly upset if any of the 3 are signed away from us knowing that a 2nd round pick is coming back in this draft.

Hobbs as a 5th might be desirable to teams looking for a return man and help at CB. I think he showed enough as a KR to be valuable. They'd just need to know if his injury is 100%.

I don't know much about Atogwe. Can you guys give me the 411?

I thought Hobbs got a 3. round tender, or have I read wrong.

Previous notes on Atogwe:

OJ Atogwe – FS – 5′11, 205 – will turn 29 this spring

Restricted Free Agent. Could be trade material. Outstanding Safety. Complete player. Can cover man or zone. Good hitter and tackler. Will miss on occasion, but is generally good. Has some pop. Good in the box or playing back off the ball. Willing to take on pulling blockers on run plays. Plays smart. Sees things before they happen. Came into the league at a late age. Only has 5 years in, but is about to turn 29. There should be enough “tread on the tire” that he can continue to play at a high level for another 3 years. Has posted some huge numbers in the past. In 2007 he picked off 8 passes. In 2008 he picked off 5 and had 6 FFs. His numbers dropped a bit in 2009. He still had a sack, 3 FFs, and 2 INTs. Good player.

Very, very nice.

I think I'd rather see the Birds splurge on a FA Safety then address DE in draft or trade. Spending a ton for Peppers and his possible lack of motivation seems too risky for me.

Eagles couldn't get the deal done with Dream Weaver. 2nd round tendered.

Darn.

Danyo said...

Dang. Hopefully they can still make a deal with Weaver. He's one of the best (if not THE best) FB in the league. Show him the money!

Leonard's agent says a deal will probably get done tomorrow.

tommy what percentage chance do you put on McNabb being the starting qb in the 2010 season

You know, I don't actually recall the Eagles signing another team's RFA and giving up a pick... when's the last time?

Tommy Lawlor said...

Nothing to report right now. I'll be posting some thoughts in a little while. I'm in the process of writing something up.

@Cliff,

Pretty sure it was the signing of Kevin Turner, back in the day. They tried to sign Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila, but the Packers matched.

hobbs was tendered in the first round. i still haven't figured out why.

Cliff said...

Oh wow. I thought I read earlier that he given a 5th round tender. But you're right, PE.com says Hobbs was given a 1st round tender.

redskins just cut 10 players. i know this sounds crazy but wouldn't rb ladell betts be a solid backup. i always thought he was a pretty decent 2/3 guy. lito got cut too

I want Peppers and Dunta. And it doesn't look like we'll sign either one. Crap.

bula412 said...

peppers will sign with the skins around 12:02

With Delomme being cut and Vicks recent comments- is Vick to the Panthers essentially a done deal?
