CB Ellis Hobbs is done for the year because of his neck injury. That leaves us with a hole at CB and KOR. Maclin took over at KOR on Sunday night, but I'm hoping the job goes to Quintin Demps. That's a talented young player who's season has been a wash to this point. I want to get him back into the flow of things. Plus, he did a terrific job on KORs last year.
We signed CB Ramzee Robinson. He's been around the league for a couple of years. Here is my pre-draft write-up on Robinson (5'9, 189):
3 year starter. 4 career INTs, 2 each as a Junior and Senior. Finished his career with 20 PBUs. Solid cover guy. Good tackler. At his best pressing and playing aggressive man coverage. Lacks top speed to handle receivers down the field, but is quick. Only ran a 4.50 at his Pro Day, but did well in all of the other tests. Had a 3-cone time of 6.71. VJ was 35. Even did 23 reps. Played in the Hula Bowl and had an INT late in the game. Has some KOR experience. Also did that in the Hula Bowl.
SUMMARY
Day 2 prospect. 190 lb guys that run 4.5 aren't coveted, but he did start at Alabama for 3 years. Has some athletic ability.
Robinson won't get as much PT as Hobbs did, but that could be a good thing. This nonsense about having 3 starting CBs and rotating them has hurt us the last couple of years. Get the 2 best guys out there and let them play. Too bad this injury didn't happen a couple of weeks ago. We could have picked up Rod Hood. He's got 2 INTs in 2 weeks for the Titans.
It sure sounds like Akeem Jordan will be a no-go this week. That will make things interesting. I hope Tracy White gets the start. He is a good pass defender and San Diego is primarily a throwing team these days. One bit of good news at LB is that Chris Gocong will return. Talk about a turnstile position this year.
