MmmBop Out Now

***

The Eagles just promoted CB Jack Ikegwuonu from the Practice Squad to take the place of Joselio Hanson. Something odd is going on. Hanson is out "about a month". Sounds like there may be some kind of a suspension.

Geoff Mosher has a post about the situation:

http://blogs.delawareonline.com/eagles/2009/11/11/hobbs-on-ir-hanson-also-out/

This isn't good news at all. Hanson, aka MmmBop, is a good Nickelback. He can cover, blitz, and tackle. He's good on STs. We will miss him.

It will be interesting to see what we do with that spot. Macho Harris or Demps could take over the Nickel spot. Both guys played CB in college and have the skill set to play the slot.

Crazy day.

UPDATE

ProFootballTalk has an update on the story. Hanson is suspended for a banned substance, but it sure sounds like a bogus situation to me. Read away.

Professor, without knowing precisely what the danger is, would you say it's time for our viewers to crack each other's heads open and feast on the goo inside?

Yes I would, Kent.

We'll miss Hanson, but Macho could take over that spot and do okay. He played some slot for us this summer and has the skill set to handle that job.

The real concern is if anything else happens at CB. We have Dmitri Patterson, Ramzee, and Jack now as the primary backups. That isn't exactly murderer's row.

And kudos for The Simpsons reference. My favorite show of all time.

If this goes bad, guess who is picking a corner on a certain saturday next April! Not that that wasn't on the cards anyway. I really hope Jack gets some play time and really makes the most of it, he's one of those players i really want to see do well.

I'm sure you'll cover this Tommy but any thoughts on Left End? Can you see Parker playing much at all with Abiamiri back and Babin playing well? Though a Nickel line of Cole - Babin - Abiamiri - Parker could do some damage.

An elite (if not quite yet getting real close) receiver hires Drew Rosenhouse two years beore his contract is up. I know the Eagles have take advantage of more than a few in this situation - Lito, Brown, the Big Kid, Patterson. So I hope DeSean gets a fair deal and while the Eagles may deserve some discount for letting him out of his rookie deal early, DeSean should also get real money that approaches his market value.

Nonetheless, there could be a holdout etc.: Shades of TO.

Rosenhouse? "Operator, it's an emergency. What's the number for 9-11?"

At least its only a month for Hanson, I'd much rather lose Hobbes for the season than Hanson. I guess if Iguana wants to prove deserves to play in this league then this would be a great time to step to the plate and hit a few home runs.

Does Ike have the capability to play in the nickel or is he purely a backup to the boundary corners?

He said on PE.com he's an outside corner. Guess that means he's purely a backup.

Rumors state, Chris Gocong for Mike on Sunday?

I have a feeling that McD has been wantint to try this for some time.

Any thoughts

Really? Spoon at Weakside and Fokou at strong side again?

Could Trotter play strongside? What are the coverage requirements like?

I always picture that position as someone who runs at blockers and occasionally goes out into the flat. Maybe thats what learning about the NFL from the Uk does for you..

Doesn't speak well for Mays if he couldn't break into the lineup at this point.

Mays has been a major disappointment, I really felt he was going to at least become a serviceable player.

the SAM is frequently responsible for covering the tight end, which is something we really don't want to see Trotter doing. He probably could handle the attacking blockers part pretty well.

Interesting side note: Bryan Smith (the one we cut this TC) will be starting at DE for the Jaguars this sunday.

I'm not sure whether that means Smith has made great strides or that Jacksonville is just that desperate at DE.
