No real surprises here. Big Al is out for WAS. That hurts them, but they have enough other weapons on defense that we still have to play well to have success.
MISC
SalPal reported that he's hearing there will be a big Mike Vick package today. We'll see. Sal has reported that about 4 or 5 other times it seems like. Hasn't really happened yet.
If we run the ball as well this week as we did last week in the base package we don't need him for more than a couple of plays.
Winning today is important. We have a chance to get to 7-4. We have a chance to get to 3-1 in the division. We also want to keep pressure on the Cowboys. They haven't handled that well in previous Decembers.

SalPal makes stuff up.
I always wondered...if Kolb is inactive, is that the same as being the #3 (emergency) QB? Or is he not available at all?
Well, this game couldn't have started worse.
I list him as inactive, but he is the #3 QB.
Celek did a horrible job on that play. Good player, but that was a costly mistake.
Great drive.
This game has shredded my nerves already!
Uhg Andy, trying to coach us out of a win again. Not against the idea of the onsides kick to open the game, but not against the offensively challenged, injury riddled skins. Kick the ball deep and make them drive 70-80 yards. No reason to risk giving them great field position to get their offense a little confidence.
Then after steamrolling your way down the field with the running game not 1 traditional running play called in the red zone. Mandy has to get all cute. Uhg.
What on earth did Dixon just do? Looked like he didn't think the RB had the ball!
I am disgusted with this 'D'. Yet again, it looks like they don't feel like playing with a lead. How many 3rd and longs are they going to let Wash convert?
There's Malcom Kelley's career highlight.
The defense is not playing well right now. Frustrating. At least the offense has shown up today. Let's hope they continue to move the ball.
and now the Redskins offense is playing with confidence, while the defense is playing like the coach told them he doesn't believe that they are good enough to beat the skins. Kind of like Andy did with the on sides kick.
93 just killed us on that drive.
Dude, the onside kick wasn't a sign of being scared of anything. It was an aggressive call. The design of the play was fine. It was just poorly executed.
I think someone just slipped some speed into 93's Gatorade, that was ridiculous!
I realize that was the intention, but sometimes the result is different, as that may be the inadvertant message the defense got. Even if that isn't the case, there is no way you call that against the skins and risk giving their offense and team that kind of life. Save that for a tougher opponent, instead of blowing it on the skins. Absolutely the wrong situation for the call. I
At least we flipped the field on this series.
Great panic block by peters on that throw to Avant. Got /just/ enough of a blitzer.
Dr...I wasn't a huge fan of the kick. I don't think it sent any kind of a message to the players. I just didn't like helping out their offense, which normally struggles to move the ball.
Who kidnapped our defense???
D-E-F-E-N-S-E!
SOFT!
SOFT!
SOFT!
***The INT doesn't change my mind.
Big pick by Sammie. Let's go get a TD and take control of this game.
Asante's been due!
Exactly Tommy. Plus now our opponents for the rest of the season will be aware that we might try it. I hate wasting it, so to speak, against a team we should be beating straight up.
Terrible RZ sequence.
2 trips to the red zone, and not 1 traditional running play called with goal to go, despite the running game steam rolling the Skins. This is what bad eagle losses smell like.
I think you need to inject a few positive thoughts in Dr. Its a 1 point game!
I really wish we'd give up on the idea of real grass. It looks like hell. Painted dirt is all it is. And it looked just as bad in September. The artificial surfaces these days are fantastic.
What a thing of beauty. We have all of our timeouts.
I know i personally prefer playing on grass. Even the best artificial surfaces i've played on are harder and burn your skin.
guess it didn't matter
Sorry Ed. It's just that I've heard the Eagles play this tune too many times before.
How's this: The Skins are bad enough that despite the Eagles best efforts at self sabotage, they will probably come away with the win.
:)
I've heard mixed reviews from a few people I know who have played on it. Some like it, some don't, and some don't have a preference.
Big sequence of events. We have a much better record with the lead at the half. The defense has struggled, but coming up with 2 INTs is huge. We do need TDs, but at least we're getting points.
Damn. I'm out of O'Douls.
Hopefully the D can build off of those last two Washington possessions. Aside from the sack and the INTs, I was really glad to see Sheldon Brown pressing and playing physical near the end of the half. Challenge the receivers!
Damnit to hell
Our ability to give up 3rd and longs is getting ridiculous...
I am beyond pissed right now.
Wow. I'm sorta speechless. Campbell is playing lights out.
The DL is getting some pressure, but isn't finishing plays. Joe Mays is struggling in coverage. Why is he out there? Play Spoon and White as the Nickel backers.
Apparenty we have the only defene that cn't stop the Redskins' offense.
Campbell is playing well right now. He gave up those INT's, but he's getting away from our rush and making key throws.
Crap.
Yet another Andy Reid Eagles team that pisses very winnable games away.
Get it together and stop trying to hand the Cowboys the division.
I can't wait for London Fletcher to retire. That guy kills us.
When you stink on 3rd down on both sides of the ball, it's really hard to win.
It's beginning to look like all of our 2010 offseason needs are on the defensive side of the ball.
Now the Skins D is flying around. It looks like we're surprised that they're fighting so hard and we don't know what to do about it.
Dr. Ogrodnick, I'm curious - what is it specifically that makes this an "Andy Reid" loss?
We're running the ball, but Reid can't hit the hole for McCoy.
He means that Andy Reid teams come up small in games that they absolutely should win. They sometimes look gutless and unprepared for a battle. You can catch his teams sleepwalking a couple times a year.
McCoy hitting the hole is hardly the reason we're losing.
Strange how such a damn good 1st and 2nd down D, can be so awful on 3rd!
Cliff: It starts with the incredibly poor decision to on sides kick to a redskins team struggling on offense. Absolutely no reason to risk giving them offensive life and a team lift that early in the game.
It continues with not one hand off called in any of the Eagles goal to go situations, despite a running game that is steam rolling the Redskins thus far. Instead Mandy gets cute and the Eagles get field goals.
Top it off with dumb penalties and sloppy play, the hallmark of Andy Reid teams over the last 5 years.
Ultimately, when he is coach, GM, and president of football operations it all goes back to him anyway.
The fans are getting restless. The defense looks clueless.
Big play by Tracy White.
This team needs to start giving a shit!
I think you're placing too much blame for this game - which isn't even decided yet - on Reid's shoulders.
Celek made a stupid penalty that cost us a TD. Sheldon Brown is obviously bothered by his injury and can't cover faster Skins receivers. And our hodgepodge of LBer replacements aren't stopping medium-range passes on 3rd down.
Somebody has to make something happen. Preferably not a Redskin.
Celek deserves an award for this game...
That was a pretty awful 3rd Qtr. It didn't kill us, though. We're down 5.
We need to shut them down on 3rd/21 right here and get something going on offense.
we need to sustain a drive.
we need to target 81 and keep moving these chains. I always feel like we don't use him enough. The dolphins use Bess on 3rd down practically every single time.
Can we please quit going to Celek over the middle???
and Celeks gotta play big and stop "expecting" flags. go make a play. don't expect a lucky break to come to you. f***. big pick for tryon. we have no rhythm
Poo
We must hold these guys to a FG.
This second half has been a perfect example of Eagles football. They just aren't trying!
Donovan led us on a comeback last week. Let's see if he can get that mojo back.
I wish he would run a little. There have been some openings in this game for him. Take off and get a few yards. That puts pressure on the D.
The offense needs to do something. They've had the ball 4 times with no first downs and a turnover. That's not going to win many games.
Couldn't go a game without a STs penalty, huh?
I love Jason Avant. Let's pray he's okay.
The offensive line is the drizzlin shits.
In Vick's defense, the ground had a better chance of catching that than Celek.
Celek... again.
glad they started going to 81... that was needed. hope he's okay. did vick's pass go through celeks hands? he's gonna get chewed out all week.
running on 3rd and short, good move shady. big hole for weaver lets pound this in.
Vick threw it behind, but Celek had his hands around the ball... CATCH IT!
Lord.
spread the f'n field and give it to Weaver up the gut
goal line and short yardage... THAT'S WHERE YOU USE VICK.
tommy - why can't we grasp that?
Low and behold, we call some runs in the Red Zone, and come away with the TD. It's not a good thing that myself as an average fan is outsmarting our coaching staff from my couch.
Some joker suggested we should use Eldra more. Clearly, he know nothing
Dude I'm frikkin nervous
Dr. Ogrodnick, now you're just being negative. We ran the ball on the GL and tied the game up with a 2-point conversion.
Clearly, our coaching staff knows what they're doing. They just finally got some execution from the players.
Can the 'D' hold now though?
Maybe we should on sides kick again...
Gain of 23. Nope.
They must have read our posts! That drive was exactly what we needed.
McCoy is playing like a star today.
Cliff: Please specify all the called runs before this drive in a goal to go situation where they didn't get good execution execution? You can't, because there weren't any, and that is my point. That is poor coaching execution.
They just showed Celek getting his hand (or some fingers?) taped up on the sideline. Maybe this is why he can't catch a damn thing today???
Whoa. I thought that was dangerously close to offsides. My TV would have been broken had that happened.
Let's eat clock and win this game with an Akers' chip shot. Or a TD.
I just don't trust the defense. I hope we don't play for the FG.
Great throw. Low and outside where it couldn't be picked.
Nice job maximizing the clock usage and forcing the skins to burn a timeout, possibly two.
Back on top, 27-24.
Can the D hold 'em?
Absolutely maybe.
On sides kick? they'd never expect it.
Big tackle by the rookie.
YES !!!!
wooooow. great come back. all sparked by avant. still not happy with how this game turned out, but there's a lot of good still at the end
2 clutch wins in 2 weeks? WHAT HAPPENED?!?! THIS IS AWESOME!!
Props to the Skins today to be quite honest, they should be a 3-7 team based on todays performance.
Whew.
Should not*
Let it go Moose. I have seen less called and worse not called.
Two back-to-back come from behind wins. I like the way we've found a running game. I like the way McNabb is starting to do a better job of checking it down. Still too many penalties, although we tightened things up a little in the second half.
We need someone besides Cole who can pressure the QB. Sadly, if we haven't found that guy by now then we probably don't have him. And I don't know what we're trying to do defensively on some of these 3rd downs.
As I gain more confidence in the offense going forward, I worry more and more about the defense. These guys will get raped by the Saints or Vikings.
