I mentioned several weeks ago that I was going to be making some changes to the site. My original goal for Eagles Blitz was to keep things simple. That changed. Readership in the last 6 months has more than tripled. Those numbers will continue to rise. With that in mind, I decided the site needed to look more professional. I talked about switching to Wordpress and started doing research on HTML, PHP, and CSS. That made May one strange month for me.
Late last week my friend Sam sent me an email. He knew I was making changes to the site and asked if I had any interest in joining another site. Sam is one of the 3 guys who runs Iggles Blog. I hadn't strongly considered anything like that recently. I sort of enjoyed the independence of doing my own thing.
I started to think about his idea. I had read something at Iggles Blog recently that really stuck with me. Derek had a blurb up about how much good Eagles coverage there is. PE.com is the best team site in the league. Blogs like Bleeding Green Nation, Iggles Blog, 700 Level, and so many more provide fans with independent opinions and analysis. The Philly media does a terrific job of covering the team. We pick on them at times for their love of controversy, but go check out how many articles are written about the Cardinals or Colts. Those fan bases have nothing to read. We're very lucky.
Back to my point. With the saturation of Eagles coverage already in place was there a good reason for me to spend time designing, working on, and expanding my blog? I'm a football guy, not a web guy. I started to think more about moving over to Iggles Blog.
Derek sent me an email and made some good points. Our sites have many of the same readers. Both sites are somewhat unusual. This isn't simplistic Eagles talk. We believe in detailed analysis (some might change that phrase to long-winded analysis). There was a lot of logic to joining forces instead of me trying to update/expand Eagles Blitz.
I talked to Derek on the phone. I threw about 1.4 million ideas at him. Strangely, he didn't hang up on me. I figure that if he can withstand that kind of barrage he might just be a good guy.
I finally decided that the prudent move would be to go over to Iggles Blog. We already have many of the same readers, so this will ease things on those people who had to keep up with both sites. There are times when Derek and I write about the same things. This will lessen the burden on us as we can now share those duties. I have tremendous respect for Sam, BountyBowl, and Derek. They built a quality site that provides outstanding content. I wouldn't go over there if I didn't personally like the site.
I will continue to post at a similar rate. We'll work to have a post up every day this spring/summer. Football isn't happening, but that hardly means there isn't anything worth writing about. I will continue my "unique" writing style. Stories will focus on the Eagles, but Buddy Ryan, Megan Fox, and Spinal Tap references will abound. I'll answer questions in the comments section as always. Everyone who comments here is encouraged to go over there and be an active participant.
Feel free to ask any questions you might have. I can't imagine there will be any serious objections, but voice them if you have them. We are Eagles fans after all.
The move will happen as of effective today. I'll stop by here to read comments on this, but my future posts will be on Iggles Blog.
Thank you for all your support in helping this blog to grow over the last couple of years. I'd especially like to thank Bill C. and Adam H. for helping me when I was making plans for a new site. Thanks guys.
Tommy

Coalition is the new government, how British of you you guys ;)
I love both sites, less switching now so I am happy :)
Can't remember seeing links on the other site, maybe wrong, but I use your links loads to read the rest of the blogs (-1 now).
They need to add a link only to
thescoutsnotebook.
Oh, and should I expect one of those fancy charts from you too now?
Are you still keeping scoutsnotebook separate?
Scouts Notebook will remain on its own. There will be a link put on Iggles Blog.
This move won't affect SN.
I can't express to you all how excited we are to have Tommy join us over at IgglesBlog. We are all huge fans of his and are honored that he chose to join our team. We hope that once we get the combined product going, you all will feel the same way.
Good news Tommy. I for one read both IgglesBlog and Eagles Blitz daily and can now find both wonderful blogs in one. Looking forward to it.
Don't forget Rambo though.
Rambo is not expendable...to me.
Pros and cons for this move. We'll get less interaction with you Tommy, feels like a nice little community on this site. Gonna miss that, the comments on Igglesblog get swamped fairly quickly.
Congrats on the massive rise in reader ratings though. Your work definitely deserved/s it. Can't wait to see some of the new content, especially joint work with Derek etc.
Just gonna be sad to see this site and its format and community get absorbed into something else. I guess there will be less duplicated content but i liked the different opinions and angles taken on certain issues.
I'm sure i'll be won round eventually mind.
See you guys as Davesbeard over there.
Tommy congrats on the super improved ratings.
This year I got sick of the EMB so I check here every time I come online to see if something has happened. Thanks a lot!
I've never seen Iggles Blog... can you post a link?
Tommy, haven't commented here before, but follow everything you write here, PE.com, and even scoutnotebook during draft time.
This is a great move, since I bounce between this and Igglesblog almost daily. Now I get to one-stop shop!
Keep up the good work!

I'll still respond to comments over at IB. I think that is a crucial component of a good blog.
I think you need to get igglesblog to create menu that will enable us to see your comments. Their archives are not in chronological order nor is the site very well organized.
I will be very disappointed if your comments get lost into the disorganized disjointed mess that I perceive the iggles blog website to be.
@ izzy...
I'll look into that.
If you have problems, email me at:
scoutsnotebook@gmail.com
I prefer the formatting of this website and comment section here over the IgglesBlog format. I find Iggles Blog to be a little too cluttered, they cram so much info into so many different tables.
And I'll miss the small-town-website vibe here.
Otherwise, best of luck in the new digs. Setting my bookmark now.
Good move. Your name has exploded in Eagle lore over the past 12 months. Those guys put together some incredible analysis but they sometimes over analyze. Your perspective will add less reliance on the data and more reliance on the other types of football evaluation. Should be a good move for everyone. Igglesblog just became my favorite site, hands down.
I enjoyed the feel of this blog as well. Growth was going to happen. Better to control it and choose how you want it to happen.
I have never commented over at IB. I'll let them know that some of you guys have concerns about the format. We'll see how that goes.
Congrats Tommy. I have enjoyed reading your stuff over the past 7 or 8 years. Unfortunately, the move means I won't be able to post in the comments at work!
Resistance is futile
Congrats, Tommy, on the increased readership/necessity of a move, and thanks for providing us with insight during confusing times and procrastination during lean times.
Also, thanks to the other regular posters here. As others have said it was a welcome haven from the EMB... like a varsity version of Eagles Blog. I'll miss the intimacy of Eagles Blitz... yikes.
See you all on the other side...
Also... I agree with the confusion/complaints of the comment section. I can't even figure out where/how to sign-in... maybe I'm spoiled with the google / blogspot marriage.
thats great news! im pretty loyal to igglesblog but have just started reading this site... so im happy with the move...
Go to the bottom of a story and click on "Comments".
There you should see an empty space to be typed in. Above it will say:
"Comment below or sign in with TypePad Facebook Twitter "
You can choose how to sign in. I'm using the TypePad system.
definitely going to miss the intimacy of this site, and i do have mixed feelings, but it's common to resist change at first. ultimately, if it's a positive move for you, then i'm on board. the way i see it is that hopefully it works out, and we're all happy, but if you find it's not a great fit, it's a pretty easy move back to your site.
i seriously can't express how thankful i am for all the work you put in. my brother told me about you a little while back, and i was a little skeptical that he was so into a "fans" take, but it only took me a couple of reads before i was checking your site daily.
also, i read your post again on the versatility of our team, and I do have to apologize for jumping on you about the DBs. i read it once quickly and jumbled the DBs in w/ your analysis on the LBs. after reading it again i realized you didn't necessarily tout the DBs as a positive.
anyway, i'll shed a tear as i pour out a little of my iced tea for our loss of eaglesblitz today, and i wish you good luck.
There's a little quirk with the system. At least for me. It says to sign in or post, but I'm actually signed in. Although it doesn't seem to show it in the comments area, but does up at the top of the page.
I too find it difficult to easily post at iggles blog. I noticed G.cobb made posting much easier and I think it would be helpful to look into a more user friendly posting system.
Besides that I love the blog and I know Mr.Lawlor is going to really expand the readership there. Wow can anyone say DREAM TEAM...GO EAGLES!
Iggles Blog is thinking of making some changes with the Comments Section. I'll mention the concerns you guys have.
I've commented a few times today and haven't really had any issues. Sorta feels weird, but that will change quickly.
I like this move for you, for IgglesBlog and for me, the reader.

As my favorite blogger/Football guy, as long as you keep writing, I'm a happy camper.
After some tough losses, you've helped me not jump off the bridge.
Thanks!
Kev
(RealCrippler on EMB)
I've posted over at Igglesblog a coupleof times and din't have any issues with it, but it definitely could use some streamlining. The content over there is great but way too busy. I just find that there is too much going on at one time, but I think that has to do with the advertising. I think they could better utilize the tabs they have along the top to seperate content.
I too share the sentiments that a lot of us have about losing the "small-town" vibe of this site. It's like losing your local beloved band/musical group to the rest of the world, you fear that they will forget where they came from. Although I think your ego is a little more in check than ANY musician.
With that being said I think this is a great move for you and look forward to seeing how the new coalition looks moving forward. CONGRATS!
@ Adam...
Glad to hear you liked this blog so much. I appreciate the fact you guys were so supportive.
IgglesBlog is a bit busier, partly due to our arrival over there (any one else picturing Caddy Day at the pool from Caddyshack?).
One thing I did too help you guys out was open a Twitter account. I'll post a link in there when I have a post/column/story go up anywhere.
twitter.com/lawlornfl
I'm just getting used to this so don't expect smooth sailing for the first week or so.
We'll make IgglesBlog as user friendly as possible. We want happy readers. I wasn't a huge fan of the layout the first few days I went there (sometime last year), but I'm now pretty comfortable with everything. Once you get used to something your comfort level increases quite a bit.
Keep the feedback coming, though. All opinions are wanted.
Sounds like a good move, Tommy. I don't comment a whole lot, but I love reading and devouring your analysis of the Birds. Looking forward to more!
Say it isn't so Joe - Say it isn't time Tommy.
I agree with all those who will miss the casual, relaxed intimate quality of this site. I stopped going to the EMB altogether when you started this blog. For the life of me, I could never figure out why more Talkers about the Eagles didn't follow you over here as I did. I've learned a ton from you and maybe a handful of other posters over there. But I've never missed the contentious, competitive tone of much of the rest of the EMB. I've always appreciated the respectful tone, in addition to the insightful analysis, that you've created for discussion here. Igglesblog seems a tad more competitive or hierarchical in
feel to me - (e.g., I don't know if I've ever gotten a response from
Derek even when I directly comment on one of his comments in the comments section.) I do think
there will be some overlap in terms of analysis content with you and
Derek... Tommy, I'm counting on you to stay chart-free! Whereas,
Bounty might give you a run for your money in the humor department.
And Sam provides some of the same content as poster Shlynch occasionally does here regarding cap issues. All good stuff.
I've often wondered how you have time to do all you do with the research, the blog, Scoutsnotebook, PE.com... Do you even have a day job (I'm guessing: teacher - you're a natural) and are time issues one of the reasons for this move?
Whatever the case, best of luck in the new venture! Igglesblog just got 10x better.
I am in favor of the move and I like the Igglesblog site a lot.
@ arby...
Sam = shlynch.
I'll address all commenters, as best I can. If I ever miss something, send me an email. If I ignore you still, send pics of a hot female relative. If that fails, I've finally broken mentally and will be focusing my attention on my fansite for Joyce DeWitt.
O.K. Tommy, you win, I take back what I just said about Bounty...
Just got back from a camping trip, nowhere near a computer, to find the best blog in Eagles Nation is coming to a close. A huge "thanks" to you, Tommy, for everything you've shared with us. Blitz has a smaller comment board thank Iggles, and ready access to you. I'll miss both of these. Iggles Blog is cool, though, those guys do a fine job and you'll probably reach more people, which is a good thing.
Thanks, again, I'll off to change my #1 bookmark from this site to Iggles Blog.
"Sam = shlynch" ...Doh!
Would I recognize Bounty and Derek from their EMB tags as well?
Neither Bounty nor Derek are active members of the EMB at this point. Derek never was ... if he has appeared in the message board world, it was under the clever name of "IgglesBlogGuy"
